YouTube has failed to remove videos of a teenager violently desecrating consecrated Hosts in spite of almost 20,000 Catholic complaints.
Videos of a young man appearing to desecrate Hosts reappeared on the internet site YouTube only a few hours after the site pulled them down. In over 40 videos the man, a French Canadian from Quebec who assumes the pseudonym FSMdude but who also calls himself Dom, is shown desecrating the Eucharist in various ways including "crucifying" it and flushing it down the toilet.
FSMdude, whose pseudonym is a reference to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a spoof religion set up by atheists in 2005, first posted a video at the end of July in which he denied the Holy Spirit and desecrated a consecrated Host by ripping it to shreds and chewing it violently. A written statement accompanied the first video and said: "So here I am. Me, and a bunch of consecrated Eucharist, ready to take the EUCHARIST CHALLENGE.
"Me and my friends will work together to get our hands on a consecrated Eucharist, each day. From now on, one Eucharist desecration a day, and each day a different method. If they want blaspheme (sic), we'll give 'em blaspheme."

Statue vandals were 'inspired by demons' says priest
16 October 2008
A Dominican priest in Kilkenny has said thugs who defaced a statue of the Sacred Heart at the entrance to his church were “inspired by demons”.
Fr Dominic Browne said he prayed for the perpetrators of the crime, saying that the damage to the statue was “as stupid as it is wicked”.
“The statue is made of iron and is extremely heavy, so it must have taken several people to knock it off its pedestal,” he added.
Fr Browne said it would be marvellous if the perpetrators came forward and confessed, but added: “I think for that to happen would be hoping for a miracle.
“They don’t realise that as well as committing criminal damage, they are committing sacrilege”.
“These people need to be prayed for,” he added. “They need prayer to purify them and we have to ask why they have such viciousness in their lives.

Priest's call to stamp out swearing
16 October 2008
A priest from Donegal has said people should object when they hear others use the Lord’s name in vain.
Fr Phillip Kemmy told his parishioners in Letterkenny that they should make their feelings clear to individuals and media groups if they find the use of the name ‘Jesus’ being used in a manner offensive to them.
He said he was not advocating a “big campaign” about the issue but if people felt strongly they should take action.
“If somebody is using bad language, why don’t you say ‘please stop using that language in my presence, I am offended by it’.”
They should also make their objections known when coarse language is used in the media, Fr Kemmy added.

Bookie rejects huge bet on next cardinal
29 August 2008
An irish bookmaker has turned down a bet of £40,000 on a priest to succeed Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor as the next Archbishop of Westminster.
Paddy Power refused to accept the bet on Mgr James Curry, the former private secretary to Cardinal Basil Hume.
A spokesman for Paddy Power said: "I can tell you that there is absolutely no way that we will take a bet like that where we would stand to lose £1.6 million. We don't know who the caller was or what he is up to but we know that his name isn't Benedict.
"You have to presume that everybody who has a bet on this market is in the know to some degree," he said.

Catholic pupil hit by woman on mobility scooter
Thursday, 28 August 2008
The mother of a Catholic primary school pupil is calling for action after her son was run over by an elderly woman on an electric mobility scooter.
Zoe Sutherland watched as her five-year-old son Brendan was knocked down by the pensioner as he walked in a pedestrianised shopping centre.
Brendan and his brother Lucas, six, both pupils at Christ the King Catholic Primary School in Thornbury, Bristol, are still very shaken up by the incident. Mrs Sutherland, 29, said the woman failed to stop or apologise.
She said: “My boys were just an arm’s length behind me as we were walking along.
"I heard someone say ‘get out of my way, move!’, before I turned around to see her almost hitting Lucas without even giving him the chance to move to the side.
“She swerved and ran into Brendan at full speed – he was on the front of the scooter then he fell off and she ran over his legs.
“They got caught up and he was dragged along the floor, but she just carried on for several metres before running over his legs again.
“It’s a miracle that nothing was broken, but Brendan is still in shock and so am I, especially because she didn’t say sorry.”
